The First Word
Tahj & Co. began in a moment of discontent-
not with creation itself, but with what creation had become.
When Black creativity was murmuring beneath noise and clutter,
when urban stories, literary worlds, and artistic worlds
felt scattered- not stitched into a lineage or sanctuary-
I saw something missing: a place where language lives,
where stories breathe without compromise.
Rooted in the belief that all forms of literary expression
are vital and that access should never be gated,
Tahj & Co. exists as a quiet resistance.
Not to broadcast- but to hold.
To be a breath of renewal, a hint of the Harlem Renaissance,
a place for the new Black news, Black art, and Black culture
brought forward through stories written and shaped with precision.
It began as a lab; a practice-
a workshop of words that hurt and healed in the same breath.
And from that soil grew work meant to be kept,
not just consumed.
Where others chased trends, we chase depth-
and let the pen carve a space worth returning to.
From that beginning, a practice formed…
The Ethos
Tahj & Co is a practice rooted in care.
We believe Black literary expression is vital;
not ornamental, not optional.
Writing is not content here.
It is record.
It is lineage.
We work slowly, on purpose.
We value depth over reach,
craft over noise.
Access matters.
Stories should not be locked behind trend cycles
or stripped of meaning to be palatable.
This is a space for words that carry weight,
objects that hold memory,
and collaborations built on respect rather than extraction.
The work is allowed to breathe.
The work is allowed to last.
